OVERVIEW ON THE IMMUNE SYSTEM - we will make this a focal point of this workshop

Lymph nodes work as part of the immune system to fight disease and infection

In hip – superficial meaning close to skin.  immune cells within each node filter out bacteria, viruses and other harmful material. Your inguinal lymph nodes form a major drainage pathway for your legs, genitals and pelvic region.

Regular exercise is crucial because it increases circulation and lymph flow and drainage.

The lymphatic system is an active pumping system driven by segments that have a function similar to peristalsis. They lack a central pump (like the heart in the cardio vascular system), so smooth muscle tissue contracts to move lymph along through the vessels

FASCIA FACTS:

  • connective tissue like steel rod in body

  • most abundant tissue in body (when combines with tendons and ligaments)

  • tightly packed collagen, elastin fibers and proprioceptors (6th sense) woven together
like a sweater - pull the collar and the whole sweater moves

  • creates traceable, communication lines (“meridians”) between all parts (Tom Myers)

  • wraps and permeates muscles, organs, bones

  • 30% of muscle’s total mass; 40% of muscle’s resistance to movement

  • 6x more sensitive nerve endings than muscles

  • “organ of form” and part of immune system relative to circulation

  • allows tissues above it (skin/fat) to slide over the muscle below it; when dry or stressed develops adhesions

  • yoga, targeted tennis ball pressure* greatly improve its cellular quality and fluid flow, help joint lubrication, circulation, more rapid healing, enhanced mobility, breaks up adhesions *(foam rolling?? The jury is out)

  • BIG advancements and ongoing studies (MRI imaging)

  • Workshop is livestream on Zoom, with recording shared right after. Lifetime access to recording.

  • Zoom link and instructions are shared after registration is completed.

  • Props needed are traditional yoga props like blocks, strap, blanket and chair. Household items can be swapped in - like a dog belt or bike tire for a strap, or a beach towel for a yoga blanket, however, specific yoga tools are highly advisable with and for consistent practice.

  • No registration refunds are issued, but transferring registration from one workshop to another is absolutely fine.
