Sunday, April 19 | 12pm to 2pm
Open to all, no matter your level of practice; open and encouraged attendance to teachers and all students.
So many practitioners struggle with this pose — not knowing accessible ways to correct imbalance.
Really learn how to do the popular pose properly, sustainably and enjoyably.
It's a standing pose, an inversion, a forward bend, a back bend, and an arm "balance" rolled into one! We explore cues and variations to make the pose unfamiliar — break from familiar and find growth!
We focus on common form mistakes (Hips, Shoulders, Spine) — Why they happen and how to break them forever.
Let's Explore and Play! Every dog has its day (har har).
We warm up and explore accessible preparatory poses for the spine, shoulders, hamstrings, etc.
We will explore variations to the pose (the “spirit” of the pose) at the wall, with a chair, as well as 3-legged dog, "balancing dog", and more!
Just a few areas we will cover about adho mukha svanasana (aka downward facing dog):
· numerous biomechanical degrees of freedom in multiple joints - requires remarkable neuromuscular control, musculoskeletal proprioceptive awareness, stability and mobility
· traditional teaching of the pose doesn’t typically consider biomechanical alignment
· a specific malalignment visible may be the result of a different problem – let’s connect the dots
· in many cases people aren’t “qualified” for the pose at the floor (until review of proper structure and muscle engagement and movements are explored; forward extension principles apply…)
COLOR HANDOUT sent before workshop and recording sent after also included in registration.
Open to all levels of practitioner and GREAT for yoga teachers and coaches to review pose basics and test various structural applications.
