DID YOU KNOW…?
The American College of Sports Medicine, the CDC, and the US Department of Health and Human Services recommend for all healthy adults should participate in at least 30 minutes moderate-intense aerobic activity 5 days a week – or vigorous intensity aerobic activity for a minimum of 20 minutes on three days per week — to reduce the risk of chronic disease later in life. Stated another way, guidelines read that “Each week adults need 150 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity and 2 days of muscle strengthening activity…” We know 150 minutes of physical activity each week sounds like a lot, but you don’t have to do it all at once
Of course the combination of HIIT, core work, yoga and recovery – as well as your sport of choice like walking, running, cycling, golf, pickleball, rowing, you name it – adds into that nicely as well!
WHAT DEFINES A HIIT WORKOUT?
HIIT (high intensity interval training) is a type of interval training routine. It is an extremely effective cardio and functional strength training approach that incorporates several rounds that alternate between – and THIS IS THE DIFFERENTIATOR — short bursts of very intense, maximal physical effort, followed by periods of active recovery or rest. The heart rate is to increase to at least 80% of one’s maximum heart rate. Weights and resistance bands in studios (if you join us via livestream, have a set of light (5-10 pounds) and heavier (12-20 pounds) weights and a resistance band.
WHY IS THE WORD “GRIT” IN THE CLASS NAME?
We at TUNE liked the idea that the five characteristics of grit are defined as:
HOW IS TUNE’S CORE CLASS DIFFERENT FROM THIS HIIT CLASS?
The Thursday CORE LIT UP CLASS also has a strength and functional movement objective in mind – but with a different approach. With a focus on movement quality, injury prevention, and overall health, CORE LIT UP uses a body weight approach first and foremost with traditional strength moves like planks, dead bugs, single leg Romanian deadlifts and classic moves, but also brings in non-traditional mobility, core stability, and use of resistance bands and even light weights to deliver a well-rounded training regimen designed for athletes and anyone at all levels. Sets are longer and not “explosive” as would be in HIIT GRIT workout. The Core class includes a 15 minute foam roll/stretch warm down at the end for a full hour. HIIT GRIT is an efficient, hardcore 30 mins of focused but functional and safe training with a very short warm-up and warm-down.
