      • 5:30 – 6:15pm: CYCLE EXPRESS: M/Body, University Ave, Rochester, NY  Open to public; 45 mins of great cardio blast; proper form / power emphasized. Serious competitors / rec group fitness peeps all welcome. Then stay for a yoga stretch (all levels) right after this cycling class.

      • 6:15 – 7:15pm: FUNCTIONAL STRENGTH AND STRETCH YOGA: M/Body, University Ave, Rochester, NY  Open to public; proper form is stressed with traditional and non-traditional poses for flexibility and strength

Learning how to apply core principles of strength in a weak/underutilized core (mainly back and shoulders) and flexibility in the power muscles (quads, glutes, hamstrings) to ensure optimal power, efficiency, endurance. This is an extended workshop that spends about 2 hours on the yoga mat, then time on YOUR bike on trainer (or an indoor cycling bike provided at the studio) that you bring for form analysis, application of the yoga principles we review and how to ensure position is not hindering – but rather propelling – your ascent to the next level. Disc issues (herniation, bulging, rupture), scoliosis, muscle imbalance, leg length discrepancy, poor chronic movement patterns, genetic maladies  – some of these things we can change, some we can’t. Learn critical functional movements and basic but EFFECTIVE and POWERFUL yoga postures that will give you the freedom of movement safely while building awareness around what you can and can’t (or shouldn’t) do.

This amazing 16” hip flexor (pronounced “so-as”) plays such a KEY role in our lives – not just physically but even emotionally as a key place we hold and store trauma. This stablilzer is the only muscle crossing from top to bottom (through the waist) and back to front. Activity and especially Inactivity make the psoas stiff and needing to compensate for other hip flexors, piriformis, the hamstrings and quadriceps.  Bring suppleness to this muscle and life is good! This workshop explores traditional yoga postures and many non-traditional mobility sequences that bring awareness to the psoas and how to both release it and strengthen it.

A must for athletes (runners, cyclists, triathletes, other) or ANYONE who sits a lot or experiences low back pain or other issues in the lower extremities. Hip flexors and hamstrings are notoriously tight on most in our population and a host of pain and malfunction is the result. Learn ways to use yoga easily at home or enhance your practice with awareness around pelvis symmetry, key postures to do daily, and other things throughout the day to help you thrive.

A methodical, approachable and basic way to see and understand the role of our breath. Different kinds of breathing will enhance your mood, your recovery, your yoga, your sports, your life. Basic pranayama techniques will be explored in addition to understanding – and applying – the latest scientific research on breath training for athletes and anyone looking to improve performance and overall well-being.  Maximize endurance, conditioning, and overall health with detailed instruction, practical advice and easy to replicate breath work that makes you stronger for longer.   We will do some yoga postures throughout the workshop that facilitate the power of the breath, elongate the spine and optimize the breathing apparatus to receive the breath most efficiently and functionally.
